We absolutely love all the Arnold Lobel books (especially the Frog and Toad series), but Owl at Home is my 2 1/2 year old's favorite. It is consistently what he asks me to read him before bed (or any other time for that matter). The stories are very simply worded but profound. Lobel writes and illustrates wonderful little books that are sweet, smart and rich with meaning.
